Straight Silicone Hose

Straight silicone hose ideal for flexible connections in fluid and air transfer applications.

What straight silicone hose do you stock?

Three 1 metre products: standard silicone in 6mm to 152mm in blue, black and red; Fuel & Oil fluorolined silicone in 6mm to 63mm in black; and Classic Wrapped fluorolined silicone in 13mm to 51mm in black with a period cloth-wrapped finish.

Which one do I need?

Standard silicone to SAE J20 R3 for coolant, water and air. Fuel & Oil to SAE J30 R6 for petrol, diesel, oil and fuel vapour, including breather lines carrying oil mist. Classic Wrapped where the hose is visible on a classic and a glossy modern finish would look wrong.

Can I use standard silicone for fuel?

No - it swells and breaks down in contact with petrol, diesel and oil. The failure is internal and gradual, so it does not announce itself. Use the Fuel & Oil version, which has a fluorosilicone inner liner and handles E5 and E10 pump fuel.

How do I choose the bore?

Order by internal diameter, matched to the outside diameter of the pipe stub it slides over. Measure the pipe with vernier callipers, not the old hose - hose stretches in service and reads large. If the two ends are different sizes, you need a reducer.

Can I bend it round a corner?

Only gently. Straight hose has a minimum bend radius and the larger the bore the larger it is. Forcing it tighter kinks the bore, restricts flow and creates a stress point. For a real change of direction use a moulded elbow - we stock 45, 90, 135 and 180 degrees.

How do I cut it cleanly?

Use a sharp blade or a dedicated hose cutter and cut square in one decisive stroke. Never use a hacksaw - it drags the reinforcement plies and leaves a frayed edge that will not seal. If you have several cuts to make, a proper cutter pays for itself.
