What is a hose clip driver and why do I need one?
It is a dedicated tool with a 7mm hex socket for driving worm drive and mini hose clips. You can use a screwdriver or a socket, but a driver reaches clips at awkward angles, applies torque cleanly without camming out, and saves a great deal of knuckle damage. If you fit more than the occasional hose, it pays for itself quickly.

Flexible, rigid or plastic - which should I choose?
The flexible shaft driver bends round obstructions to reach clips you cannot see or line up on, which is where most of the frustration lies. The rigid driver gives more direct torque and better control for straightforward access. The plastic thumb driver is compact, cheap and ideal for small clips and light work in tight spaces.

Will they fit all your clips?
They take a 7mm hex head, which fits our worm drive hose clips and mini fuel hose clips. T-bolt clamps use an M5, M6 or M8 nut depending on size and need a spanner or socket instead. If you are unsure which head your clips have, check the product page - it is listed in the specification.

Can I use one in a drill or driver?
We would not recommend it. Power driving a hose clip makes it very easy to over-tighten, and over-tightening is what cuts into the hose and causes the leak you were trying to prevent - silicone and rubber only need nipping up. Tighten by hand so you can feel when the clip has taken up. Speed is not the point here.

How tight should a hose clip actually be?
Firm, not crushed. You want the hose compressed evenly against the pipe without the clip band biting into the material. Re-check tension after the first few heat cycles - a new joint beds in and a clip that felt tight when cold often needs a small extra nip. Over-tightening is a far more common cause of leaks than under-tightening.

What colours does the plastic driver come in?
Black, red, blue and white. That is more useful than it sounds in a busy workshop - a bright driver in a toolbox or on a bench is much harder to lose than a black one, and colour coding lets you keep one in the van and one on the bench without them getting mixed up.
