What is the difference between a straight hose and a coupler?

A 1 metre straight hose is raw length you cut to size - the building block for making up your own runs. A coupling hose is a short pre-cut connector, supplied in set lengths from 50mm to 950mm, for joining two pipe stubs. If you need one specific short join, buy a coupler in that length; if you need several pieces or a long run, buy a metre and cut it.

What sizes do you cover?

Straight hose runs from 6mm to 152mm internal diameter across 33 sizes. Couplers run from 13mm to 152mm in 29 sizes and 20 lengths. Wire reinforced SuperFlex covers 6mm to 51mm. Fuel & Oil straights cover 6mm to 63mm. Continuous coil hose covers 13mm to 51mm. Between them, virtually any bore you are likely to need is available.

When do I need the wire reinforced SuperFlex hose?

When the hose must resist collapsing - under vacuum, on the suction side of a pump, or where it has to bend more tightly than plain hose will allow without kinking. The embedded steel helix holds the bore open. It costs more than plain reinforced hose, so use it only where the duty calls for it rather than as a default.

Which one do I use for fuel or oil?

Only the Fuel & Oil straight, which is built to SAE J30 R6 with a hydrocarbon-resistant liner and comes in black in 6mm to 63mm. Everything else in this range is standard silicone to SAE J20 R3, which is excellent with coolant, water and air but swells and fails in contact with petrol, diesel or oil.

What is a hump connector and a T-piece for?

A hump connector has a raised section that absorbs vibration and slight misalignment between two pipe stubs - use it where an engine moves relative to a fixed pipe. A T-piece creates a three-way branch for a heater feed, breather or bypass takeoff. Both come in 25mm to 102mm bores, reinforced, in the same three colours as the rest of the range.

How do I cut silicone hose cleanly?

Use a sharp blade or a dedicated hose cutter and cut square in one decisive stroke. Never use a hacksaw - it drags the reinforcement plies and leaves a frayed edge that is very hard to seal. If you have several cuts to make, a proper hose cutter pays for itself and gives noticeably better joints.
