What is in the rubber air hose range?

Two distinct products. Airline hose for compressed air delivery - workshop tools, tyre lines, site air - in 6mm to 19mm bores, built to BS5118/2. And vacuum air brake servo hose for brake servo vacuum lines and commercial vehicle pneumatic control lines, in 9.5mm and 13mm, built to BSAU110 and conforming to SAE J1402.

Can I use airline hose for a brake servo?

No. A servo line runs under vacuum, not pressure, and needs a hose reinforced specifically to resist collapse under negative pressure. An airline hose used on a servo can slowly draw shut, giving a hard brake pedal that comes and goes - a dangerous and hard-to-diagnose fault. Use the correct hose for each job.

What sizes and lengths do you supply?

Airline hose in 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 13mm and 19mm bores, cut from 1 metre to a 60 metre coil. Servo hose in 9.5mm and 13mm, cut from 1 metre to a 50 metre coil. Order by internal diameter and match it to the outside diameter of the fitting or spigot it pushes onto.

Does hose size affect air tool performance?

Considerably. Air tools are rated at a given pressure and flow measured at the tool, not at the compressor. Too narrow a hose, or too long a run, causes a pressure drop that leaves an impact gun feeling weak even though the compressor gauge looks fine. If a tool underperforms on a long line, try a larger bore before blaming the compressor.

Why is the servo hose oil resistant?

Because it lives in an engine bay where oil mist, splashes and fuel vapour are unavoidable, and an ordinary rubber hose in that environment goes soft and swells. The oil-resistant inner tube plus an ozone-resistant outer cover is what gives it a realistic service life. Ozone resistance is why the outer does not craze and crack after a few summers.

How do I fit couplings to airline hose?

Cut the hose square with a sharp blade or hose cutter, push the fitting fully home onto the shank, and secure with a hose clip - or a crimped ferrule for a permanent installation. On the larger bores, two clips at right angles give a better grip. Never rely on a push fit: an unclipped air line under pressure can whip and cause serious injury.
