Why do VW fuel filler hoses need replacing so often?
Because the original rubber was never formulated for ethanol-blended fuel, and on air-cooled and early water-cooled cars it is now decades old. Ethanol attacks it from the inside, so the hose can look sound while it is perishing internally - and a filler neck leak drops fuel straight onto the underside of the car. It is a common and worthwhile replacement.

How do I make sure I order the right filler hose?
Match on model and year - VW changed filler arrangements frequently, and Golf MK1 75-83, Scirocco MK1 and MK2, Jetta 79-83 and Golf Cabriolet 79-83 all have their own listings. The most reliable method is the OE part number on the old hose; several of our listings quote them, such as 211201125 and 261201125. Send photos with a tape measure if you are unsure.

Are the fuel hoses E5 and E10 compatible?
Yes - these are built to fuel-rated specification and handle modern ethanol-blended petrol. That is a large part of the point of replacing an original hose on a classic VW: the fuel available now is not the fuel the car was built for, and the original hose compound is not equal to it.

What is the Golf MK5 GTI breather hose upgrade?
A silicone replacement for the PCV cylinder head vent breather hose, which is a known failure point on the 2.0 GTI from 2003 on. The original hardens and splits, causing rough running, boost and vacuum faults. The silicone version does not perish, and being a breather line it carries oil mist - which is exactly why the specification matters.

Is the 1.9 TDI EGR blanking hose road legal?
Blanking off EGR removes an emissions control device. That can affect the MOT emissions check and the vehicle's road legality, and on a vehicle still under warranty it may cause a dispute. Many customers use these on off-road, competition or engine-swap projects. It is your call, but go in knowing that rather than finding out at an MOT.
