What is stainless steel braided fuel hose for?

It is a high-pressure flexible hose for fuel, oil and general fluid transfer where you need both flexibility and protection. The rubber inner tube does the sealing, the fibre braid takes the pressure, and the 304 stainless overbraid protects the hose from abrasion, heat radiation and chafing. It is the standard choice for engine bay fuel lines, oil feeds and returns, and any run that passes close to hot or sharp components.

Is it compatible with modern pump fuel?

Yes. It is built to SAE J30 R6 and is compatible with E5 and E10 petrol as well as diesel and oils. Ethanol-blended fuel attacks older rubber fuel lines from the inside, which is why hose that has been on a vehicle for many years can look perfect externally and still be perishing internally. If you are replacing an older line, this hose is a safe upgrade.

What sizes and lengths can I get?

Internal diameters of 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 13mm, cut to order from 1 metre up to a 30 metre full coil. Order by internal diameter to match the outside diameter of your pipe or fitting spigot - the stainless braid adds to the outside dimension, so allow a little extra clearance where the hose runs close to other components.

Does it take AN fittings?

Yes - it is AN type hose and accepts standard AN hose ends in the corresponding size. When you cut it, wrap the cut area in tape first and cut through the tape with a sharp cut-off wheel or proper hose shears, then remove the tape. That stops the stainless braid from fraying and unravelling, which makes fitting the hose end far easier and much safer on your hands.

Can I use ordinary hose clips on braided hose?

Not on the braid alone - a worm drive clip will bite into the stainless strands and can cut them. Braided hose is designed to terminate in a proper AN or crimped fitting, which grips the hose evenly all the way round. If you are working at low pressure and must use a clip, use a wide-band clip and never over-tighten it.

What is the advantage over plain rubber fuel hose?

Three things: higher burst strength, far better resistance to abrasion and chafing, and much better protection against radiant heat from exhausts and turbos. It also holds its shape and resists kinking on tighter routing. Plain rubber fuel hose is perfectly adequate for a low-pressure feed clipped to a barb - braided is what you want for pressurised injection systems, exposed runs and anything in a hot engine bay.
