Blue is the conventional identification colour for clean water and compressed air in a lot of industrial and workshop practice, which makes it a sensible default where several services run alongside each other. It also blocks light, so algae will not grow inside it the way it does in clear hose.

No. The braid provides pressure strength but no collapse resistance, so any real negative pressure will draw it shut. For suction you need a hose with a steel helix - our PVC wire reinforced hose covers 10mm to 51mm and is designed for that duty.
