Plastic Elbow Joiners

What plastic elbows do you stock?

Inline barbed 45 degree elbows, 90 degree joiners, and 45 and 90 degree reducing joiners - so you can turn a corner, and turn a corner while changing diameter, in one fitting. Made from ABS plastic, they suit low-pressure water, pond, ducting and general-purpose work.

When should I use plastic rather than metal or silicone?

For low-pressure water, pond and ducting work where there is no significant heat and cost matters, and where corrosion resistance is useful. For anything pressurised, hot, or carrying fuel or oil, use aluminium, stainless or silicone - plastic has neither the temperature range nor the strength.

How do I size a barbed elbow?

Match the barb outside diameter to your hose internal diameter. It should need a firm push to go on - warming the hose end in hot water makes a tight fit far easier. If it slides on loosely it is too small, and no amount of clip tension will make that joint reliable.

Do I need clips on them?

On anything pressurised, or anything that matters if it comes off, yes. The barb resists pull-off but does not seal on its own once the hose relaxes with age and temperature. A stainless clip each side is cheap insurance - particularly on a pond or appliance connection.

What is a reducing elbow for?

Turning a corner and changing diameter in one fitting, which saves you a separate reducer and elbow - one fewer joint, one fewer pair of clips, and less length used up. We do them in both 45 and 90 degrees. Order by the two hose bores, large to small.

Will an elbow restrict flow?

Any bend costs some flow, and a 90 degree elbow costs more than a 45. But it costs far less than kinking a hose round the same corner, which closes the bore up dramatically. If you have space, two 45s in a sweep flow better than a single 90.
