Which ducting do I need?

It comes down to temperature and what is passing through. Silicone air ducting for hot air, -70C to +310C. Aluminium semi-flexible for HVAC and moderate heat, -30C to +150C. Polyurethane for abrasive dust and material handling, -40C to +90C. PVC corrugated for clean air, -10C to +65C.

What sizes do you stock?

Silicone ducting 25mm to 200mm in 1 to 4 metre lengths; polyurethane 38mm to 300mm in 1 to 20 metre lengths; aluminium semi-flexible in 76mm, 102mm, 125mm and 150mm in 2 and 4 metre lengths. There are also complete 5 and 9 metre dual exhaust extraction ventilation ducting kits.

What are the exhaust extraction kits?

Complete dual-outlet ventilation ducting kits in 5 and 9 metre lengths, built around silicone glass fibre ducting so they handle genuinely hot exhaust gas. They are aimed at workshops and garages venting engine exhaust out of the building - the material is the important part, since PVC would not survive it.

Can these be used on the suction side of a fan?

Yes - the silicone, polyurethane and PVC ducting all have a wire helix in the wall so they hold their bore under negative pressure, and aluminium semi-flexible is self-supporting. That is the fundamental difference between ducting and plain flexible hose, which collapses the moment you pull a vacuum on it.

Which is best for dust extraction?

Polyurethane, if the dust is at all abrasive. Wood chips, grit and grain wear straight through PVC at the bends within a season, whereas polyurethane is made for it. For fine non-abrasive dust or fume, PVC corrugated is cheaper and adequate. Earth the helix properly if the dust is combustible.

How do I join and cut ducting?

Cut the wall between the helix coils with a sharp knife, then cut the wire with side cutters and tape or dress the cut end so it cannot work through the wall. Join with a duct connector sized to the bore - we stock ABS male and reducing connectors for PU ducting in 50mm to 200mm.
