What is a beaded hose joiner and why does the bead matter?

A beaded joiner is an aluminium tube with a raised lip formed near each end. When you clamp a hose over it, the clip pulls the hose down behind that bead, which gives the joint a mechanical stop rather than relying purely on friction. That is what stops a pipe blowing off under boost - the hose has to physically stretch over the bead to escape, not simply slide.

Beaded or unbeaded - which do I need?

Beaded for anything pressurised: intercooler pipework, turbo and supercharger plumbing, boosted intake. Unbeaded is easier to slide hose onto and lets you set the exact hose position, which suits coolant runs and low-pressure applications where blow-off is not a concern. We stock both ranges in matching sizes, so you can use the right one in each position.

What sizes and lengths do you stock?

Outside diameters from 8mm up to 102mm - 22 sizes - in 20 lengths from 50mm to 950mm. Order by outside diameter, matched to the internal diameter of the silicone or rubber hose that will slide over it. If you cannot find the length you want, get in touch and we will tell you what is possible.

What is the material and temperature rating?

T6063 aluminium alloy with a 1.6mm wall, rated -40C to +220C. T6063 gives a good balance of strength, corrosion resistance and light weight, and it will not rust like mild steel. In most installations the limiting component is the hose rather than the joiner - our standard silicone runs to +250C, so the joiner is comfortably within its capability.

Can I cut a beaded joiner to length?

You can cut the plain middle section, but you cannot cut near the bead without losing the bead itself - and the bead is the whole point. Work out which end you need to shorten and cut from the middle, keeping at least 25-30mm of tube beyond the bead for the hose to seat on. Deburr the cut inside and out. If you regularly need a specific short length, ask us for a quote.

What clips should I use with them?

T-bolt clamps for boost and pressurised joints - they apply even force all the way round and hold their tension through heat cycles far better than a worm drive clip. Worm drive stainless clips are fine on coolant and low-pressure air. Position the clamp so it sits behind the bead on the hose, not on top of the bead itself, which would deform the hose and reduce the grip.
