What is a 45 degree reducing elbow for?

It does two jobs in one part: it changes direction by 45 degrees and steps between two different pipe diameters at the same time. That saves you fitting a separate reducer and elbow, which means one fewer joint, one fewer pair of clips, less length taken up, and less turbulence in the flow. It is particularly useful in tight intercooler and intake routing.

What size combinations do you stock?

43 pairings, from 16mm to 13mm right up to 127mm to 90mm, in black, red and blue. Each elbow has 150mm legs, giving 300mm total. Order by the two internal diameters, matched to the outside diameters of the two pipe stubs you are joining - measure the pipes with vernier callipers rather than measuring the old hose.

Which way round does it go?

The larger bore end goes on the larger pipe. Sizes are always quoted large to small, so 38mm to 32mm means one end takes a 38mm pipe and the other a 32mm pipe. It is worth dry-fitting before you clamp anything up - it is surprisingly easy to get a reducing elbow the wrong way round when you are working blind in a tight engine bay.

What is it rated for?

Built to SAE J20 R3 in 3 and 4 ply depending on size, with a smooth extruded silicone inner layer, polyester braid reinforcement and a silicone outer. That gives the same temperature and pressure capability as the rest of our standard silicone range. Like all standard silicone, it is not suitable for fuel or oil - use the fluorolined range for those.

What clips do I need?

Two different sizes, one for each end, sized to the outside diameter of the fitted hose rather than the bore. This is the thing most people get wrong on reducers - it is easy to order a matching pair and find one will not close far enough. For boost pipework use T-bolt clamps at both ends; for coolant, stainless worm drive clips are fine.

Can I trim the legs?

Yes - cut square with a sharp blade or hose cutter, leaving enough straight section beyond the bend for the clip to seat on properly, ideally 25-30mm or more on larger bores. Do not trim so far that the clip ends up sitting on the curve of the bend, because it will not seal evenly there and will tend to work loose.
