How to measure ID

ID OD wall reinforcement plies ID = bore · OD = ID + (2 × wall)
1
Measure the pipe, not the old hose
Heat and age make a used hose swell and go out of round. Take your reading across the metal outlet the hose slides onto — that measurement is your ID.
2
Use vernier calipers
Set the outer jaws across the widest point of the pipe. A tape measure round a curve reads low by a millimetre or two — enough to buy the wrong size.
3
Take three readings, keep the largest
Rotate 60° between each. If they disagree the pipe is oval; size to the biggest figure so the hose still seals.
4
Round to the nearest listed bore
Silicone stretches slightly. If you land between sizes, go down to the smaller bore for a tight seal — never up.
Order by ID, always. Every hose on this site is listed by internal diameter. OD is given for clearance only — it changes with wall thickness and ply count, so it is never the ordering size. On reducers, quote both ends, largest first.

Construction

1 · Outer cover
Silicone, gloss finishPigmented through
UV, ozone & abrasion resistant · colour will not fade or peel
2 · Reinforcement
Polyester textile pliesCross-woven, embedded
Holds shape under pressure and vacuum · ply count rises with bore
3 · Inner liner
Silicone, smooth boreVMQ
−50 °C to +180 °C · non-toxic, odourless · resists coolant & water/glycol
Ply count varies by bore. Hoses up to 51 mm are 3-ply; 57 mm and above are 4-ply.

Silicone Coupling Hose

✅ High Temp ✅ SAEJ20R3 ✅ High Pressure

What is it used for?

It joins two pipe stubs of the same diameter - metal pipework, an air filter to an intake, or a hard pipe to a component. Being silicone rather than a rigid joint, it also absorbs a little vibration and tolerates minor misalignment.

What size do I order?

Order by internal diameter, matched to the outside diameter of the pipe stubs it joins. Measure the pipe with vernier callipers, not the old hose. Available in internal diameters from 13mm to 152mm, lengths from 50mm to 950mm, in blue, red and black.

How much pipe should be inside it?

At least 25mm engaged at each end on smaller bores and proportionally more on larger ones, with the clip sitting squarely over the supported section rather than near the open end. That is why 50mm is the practical minimum length for a straightforward join.

What is it rated for?

Built to SAE J20 R3 with polyester braid reinforcement. Smaller bores are 3 ply and larger bores step up to 4 ply - each size is built with the reinforcement it needs, so you do not have to specify it. Working pressure runs from 8.3 bar on the smallest bore down to 1.5 bar on the largest, with burst pressure from 27 bar down to 4.5 bar across the 13mm to 152mm range.

Can it carry fuel or oil?

No - standard silicone swells and breaks down in contact with hydrocarbons. Use our fluorolined coupler, built to SAE J30 R6, for fuel, oil, breather and catch-can work.

Can it join two different sized pipes?

No - stretching it over an oversized stub gives an uneven seal and a joint that creeps loose. Use a reducer, which is moulded with a proper tapered transition. We stock straight reducers in 61 size pairings from 12mm to 8mm up to 127mm to 102mm.
