How to measure ID

Measure the pipe, not the old hose
Heat and age make a used hose swell and go out of round. Take your reading across the metal outlet the hose slides onto — that measurement is your ID.

Use vernier calipers
Set the outer jaws across the widest point of the pipe. A tape measure round a curve reads low by a millimetre or two — enough to buy the wrong size.

Take three readings, keep the largest
Rotate 60° between each. If they disagree the pipe is oval; size to the biggest figure so the hose still seals.

Round to the nearest listed bore
Never go up: a bore wider than the fitting will not grip, whatever the hose is made of. If you land between listed sizes take the smaller bore, and secure it with a clip.
Order by ID, always. Every hose on this site is listed by internal diameter. OD is given for clearance only — it changes with wall thickness and ply count, so it is never the ordering size. On reducers, quote both ends, largest first.

What is a coupling joiner for?

Joining two pipe stubs or two lengths of hose - repairing a split section without replacing a whole moulded hose, extending a coolant run, or adapting between hard pipes on a custom installation.

What sizes and lengths do you supply?

Available in internal diameters from 5mm to 102mm, lengths from 50mm to 100mm. Order by internal diameter to match the outside diameter of the pipe stubs you are joining. If the two stubs are different sizes you need a reducer rather than a straight coupler.

How much pipe should be inside it?

At least 25mm engaged at each end on smaller bores and proportionally more on larger ones, with the clip sitting squarely over the supported section. A 50mm coupler joining two stubs gives roughly 25mm each side, which is the minimum - if you have room, a longer one makes a more secure joint.

What is it rated for?

EPDM rubber built to SAE J20 R3, -30C to +120C, glycol rated for standard antifreeze mixes. It is not suitable for fuel or oil - hydrocarbons attack EPDM.

Rubber or silicone coupler?

Rubber is the like-for-like choice for a standard cooling system, cheaper, and matches the feel of the original hoses. Silicone is the upgrade: much higher temperature capability, it will not perish or harden with age, and it is available in colours.

What clips should I use?

Stainless worm drive clips, one per end, positioned over the pipe stub rather than overhanging it. Nip them firmly without crushing the rubber. On a high-vibration installation or a larger bore, a heavier clip band is worth the upgrade.
