Polyurethane (PU) Ducting is a highly flexible, lightweight, and abrasion-resistant hose designed for air, dust, and light material transfer in industrial, agricultural, and commercial systems. Manufactured from premium-grade polyurethane reinforced with a steel wire helix, the ducting combines outstanding durability with excellent flexibility, even in tight bend radii. Its smooth bore ensures efficient airflow and minimal pressure loss, while the transparent construction allows for easy visual inspection of material movement. PU ducting offers superior resistance to abrasion compared with PVC alternatives, making it an ideal choice for applications involving granular, powder, or abrasive particles.

Key Features:

  • Material: Premium polyurethane with embedded steel wire helix for flexibility and crush resistance.

  • Construction: Lightweight corrugated wall with smooth internal bore for efficient flow.

  • Flexibility: Highly flexible, suitable for routing in confined spaces and tight bends.

  • Abrasion Resistance: Superior to PVC ducting for handling abrasive materials such as dust, powder, and granules.

  • Operating Temperature: -40°C to +90°C (short-term peaks up to +125°C).

  • Transparency: Clear wall allows visual monitoring of airflow and conveyed materials.

  • Applications: Dust and fume extraction, air movement, material handling, agricultural ventilation, and workshop machinery connections.

The polyurethane construction provides exceptional wear resistance and longevity, making it particularly effective for abrasive media such as sawdust, powder coatings, food grains, and light solids. The steel wire helix reinforcement ensures flexibility while resisting collapse under suction, making it suitable for both vacuum and low-pressure delivery systems. Its smooth inner surface reduces turbulence, improving efficiency and preventing blockages, while the transparent body allows operators to quickly identify blockages or monitor material flow. Lightweight and easy to handle, the ducting can be cut to length and secured with standard clamps.

Applications include dust and fume extraction from woodworking machinery, powder transfer in manufacturing, air and ventilation systems in agriculture, and general workshop or industrial material handling. Polyurethane PU Ducting is widely used in factories, workshops, and agricultural environments where a strong, flexible, and abrasion-resistant ducting solution is required.

How to measure ID

ID OD wall reinforcement plies ID = bore · OD = ID + (2 × wall)
1
Measure the pipe, not the old hose
Heat and age make a used hose swell and go out of round. Take your reading across the metal outlet the hose slides onto — that measurement is your ID.
2
Use vernier calipers
Set the outer jaws across the widest point of the pipe. A tape measure round a curve reads low by a millimetre or two — enough to buy the wrong size.
3
Take three readings, keep the largest
Rotate 60° between each. If they disagree the pipe is oval; size to the biggest figure so the hose still seals.
4
Round to the nearest listed bore
Never go up: a bore wider than the fitting will not grip, whatever the hose is made of. If you land between listed sizes take the smaller bore, and secure it with a clip.
Order by ID, always. Every hose on this site is listed by internal diameter. OD is given for clearance only — it changes with wall thickness and ply count, so it is never the ordering size. On reducers, quote both ends, largest first.

Polyurethane PU Ducting

✅ -40°C to +90°C ✅ Lightweight ✅ Left Hand Spiral

What is it used for?

Air, dust and light material transfer - workshop dust extraction, woodworking and CNC swarf removal, fume extraction, agricultural grain and feed handling, and general industrial ventilation. Its abrasion resistance is the main advantage over PVC.

What sizes and lengths do you stock?

Available in internal diameters from 38mm to 300mm, lengths from 1 Metre to 20 Metres. Order by internal diameter to match the spigot or machine outlet it connects to.

What temperature will it take?

-40C to +90C, manufactured to DIN 4102-B1. For genuinely hot air - engine exhaust or process air above that - you need silicone glass fibre ducting, which is rated -70C to +310C.

Can it be used on the suction side of a fan?

Yes - the embedded wire helix stops it collapsing under negative pressure, so it works on both sides of a fan or extractor. That is the fundamental difference between ducting and plain flexible hose.

How do I cut it to length?

Cut the wall between the helix coils with a sharp knife, then cut the wire with side cutters, and tape or dress the cut wire end so it cannot work through the wall or catch a hand.

How do I join lengths together?

Use a duct connector sized to the bore and secure each side with a worm drive clip or ducting clamp. We stock ABS male and reducing connectors for PU ducting in 50mm to 200mm outside diameter, covering 20 reducing pairings.
