How to size a clip

Measure over the hose, not the pipe

A clip closes around the outside of the hose once the hose is already on its fitting. That outside diameter is the clip size — the bore the hose runs on is not.

Or work it out from the hose's own figures

If the hose is not to hand, take its internal diameter and add twice the wall thickness — both are listed in that hose's own Size Guide. A 19 mm bore silicone hose has a 4.5 mm wall, so it measures 28 mm across the outside.

Use vernier calipers, keep the largest reading

Set the outer jaws across the widest point of the assembled joint and rotate 60° between readings. Hose is soft and rarely perfectly round, so size to the biggest figure.

Match the size to your figure

These are listed at a nominal diameter rather than a span, so choose the size that matches the outside of the hose you are holding — round up if you land between two.

Size the clip to the hose OD, not the bore. A 19 mm hose does not take a 19 mm clip — with a 4.5 mm wall it measures about 28 mm across the outside. Every figure on this page is the outside diameter the clip closes on.

What is in the pack?

One hundred rubber lined P-clips in one size, for fixing hose, pipe or cable runs to a bracket, panel or chassis rail.

Who is the 100 pack for?

Workshops, restorers, fabricators and fleet work - anywhere the same clip size gets used constantly. Per clip it is much cheaper than singles, and it stops the job stalling because you are three clips short.

What sizes do you stock?

5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 13mm, 16mm, 21mm, 25mm, 29mm and 35mm. Size to the outside diameter of the hose or pipe being clamped, not its bore. The box is a single size.

What are they made from?

Zinc-plated solid steel with a rubber lining. The band is 12mm wide and 0.6mm thick, rated -50C to +150C with peaks to +160C.

Why does the rubber lining matter?

It cushions the run against vibration and stops a steel band cutting into the hose. An unlined clip will wear a flat and then a hole into silicone or rubber.

How far apart should I fit them?

Typically every 300 to 500mm on a straight run, and always just before and after a bend, a bulkhead pass, or anywhere the hose passes near an edge or a moving part.
