Which type of ducting do I need?
It comes down to temperature and what is passing through. Silicone air ducting for hot air, -70C to +310C. Aluminium semi-flexible for HVAC and moderate heat, -30C to +150C. Polyurethane for abrasive dust and material handling, -40C to +90C. PVC corrugated for clean air and general use, -10C to +65C. Tell us the temperature and the medium and we will confirm which is right.

What sizes do you stock?
Silicone ducting 25mm to 200mm, polyurethane 38mm to 300mm, PVC corrugated 19mm to 51mm, and aluminium semi-flexible in 76mm, 102mm, 125mm and 150mm. Between them the range covers small bench extraction up to industrial main runs. Order by internal diameter, matched to the spigot or machine outlet.

Can all of these be used on the suction side of a fan?
Yes - the silicone, polyurethane and PVC corrugated ducting all have a wire helix embedded in the wall so they hold their bore under negative pressure, and aluminium semi-flexible is self-supporting. That is the fundamental difference between ducting and a plain flexible hose, which simply collapses when you pull a vacuum on it.

Which ducting should I use for dust extraction?
Polyurethane, if the dust is at all abrasive. Wood chips, grit and grain wear straight through PVC at the bends within a season, whereas polyurethane is made to take it. For fine, non-abrasive dust or fume, PVC corrugated is cheaper and adequate. Whichever you choose, earth the helix properly if you are moving combustible dust.

How do I join lengths of ducting together?
Use a duct connector sized to the bore - we stock ABS male connectors and reducing connectors for polyurethane ducting in 50mm to 200mm - and secure each side with a worm drive clip or ducting clamp. For heater ducting there is also a 76mm T-piece vent connector for splitting a run into two outlets.

Do you sell extraction fans?
Yes - we stock an inline ducting fume extraction fan rated at 187 cubic metres per hour, 33W, 56dBA. It uses mixed-flow technology, which moves a good volume of air even against the resistance of a carbon filter or a long duct run - which is where cheaper axial fans fall away badly. It suits fume extraction and general ventilation.
