What is wrapped silicone hose?

It has a cloth-wrapped outer finish rather than the smooth surface of modern silicone hose, giving it the textured appearance of period rubber hose. Underneath, it is entirely modern: a fluorosilicone inner layer, fine mesh polyester yarn reinforcement, and a wrapped VMQ silicone outer. You get an OEM-correct look with fuel compatibility and silicone durability.

Why would I choose it over standard silicone?

Appearance, mostly. On a classic, vintage or concours restoration, a smooth glossy silicone hose looks obviously modern and out of place in an otherwise period engine bay. The wrapped finish reads as original while giving you a hose that will not perish and that copes with modern ethanol-blended fuel. It is the sensible compromise between authenticity and reliability.

What sizes and colours are available?

Straight 1 metre hose and 45 and 90 degree elbows, all in 13mm to 51mm internal diameter across nine sizes, in black only. The colour is not offered as an option because the wrapped outer construction is not made in colours - which is just as well, since black is what a period-correct installation calls for anyway.

Can it carry fuel and oil?

Yes. It is built to SAE J30 R6 with a fluorosilicone inner layer, so it handles petrol, diesel, oils and fuel vapour including E5 and E10 pump fuel. That is one of the main reasons people fit it to older vehicles - original rubber fuel lines from before ethanol blending was common degrade rapidly on modern pump fuel.

What temperature will it handle?

-60C to +180C with a peak of +200C. That is a narrower top end than plain silicone, which runs to +250C, and it is the trade-off for the fluorosilicone liner. It is still far beyond what the period rubber hose it replaces could manage, and it comfortably covers a classic engine bay.

How is it constructed?

A fluorosilicone inner layer for chemical compatibility, fine mesh polyester yarn reinforcement for burst and working pressure capability, and a wrapped VMQ silicone outer layer for abrasion and weather protection. Working pressures run from around 2.8 to 12.33 bar and burst from 8.5 to 37 bar depending on diameter, built to SAE J20 R6.
