What is PVC LPG hose used for?

Carrying liquefied petroleum gas - propane or butane - from a cylinder or tank to an appliance. It has a black PVC inner tube with triple polyester yarn reinforcement, is flame resistant, rated to 20 bar over -10C to +65C, and built to ISO 3821. Available in 5mm to 13mm bores.

PVC or rubber LPG hose?

Rubber to ISO 3821 is more flexible and more durable, especially in cold weather where PVC stiffens, and it copes better with repeated coiling and handling. PVC is flame resistant, rated to 20 bar and a cost-effective choice for a static installation. For anything moved or used outdoors in winter, choose rubber.

Which regulator do I need with it?

It depends on the cylinder valve. 21mm butane valve takes a 21mm clip-on regulator at 28mbar; 27mm propane valve takes a 27mm clip-on at 37mbar; a threaded POL propane valve takes a screw-on at 37mbar. All to EN 16129, all with an 8mm nozzle to suit this hose.

When should I replace it?

At the interval marked on the hose or specified by the appliance manufacturer - commonly five years, but check yours. LPG hose degrades with age even when it looks sound, which is why the date matters more than appearance. If there is no legible date on your existing hose, replace it now.

How do I connect it?

Push it fully onto the regulator nozzle and appliance spigot and secure with an appropriate gas hose clip at each end - never rely on a push fit. Then leak-test every joint with soapy water before use. Cut the hose square and only as long as you need.

How do I check for a leak?

Brush washing-up liquid and water over each joint with the gas on and the appliance off. Bubbles mean a leak. Never test with a flame. If you find one, turn off at the cylinder, do not operate electrical switches, ventilate and do not use the appliance until it is fixed.
