What is it for?
Cutting hose, rubber matting, trim and flexible sheet materials, plus the everyday cardboard and plastic sheeting jobs. The 18mm blade is the larger snap-off size, which gives the depth and stiffness that a 9mm craft knife does not.

Why a snap-off blade?
Because a dull blade is what ruins a cut. Rubber and silicone blunt an edge quickly - with a segmented blade you snap off 8mm and you are sharp again, instead of carrying on with an edge that tears rather than slices.

Does the blade lock?
Yes - a secure blade lock holds the slide in place, so the blade will not creep back under load. On thick rubber matting that is a safety feature rather than a convenience, because a retracting blade is how hands get cut.

Can I cut silicone hose with it?
For thin unreinforced hose and tube, yes, if you cut square in one decisive stroke. For reinforced hose the blade wanders through the plies and leaves an angled end that is hard to seal - use a proper hose cutter for anything reinforced.

How do I snap a segment off safely?
Retract the blade to expose one segment, grip that segment with pliers or the snapper on the cap, and break it away from you. Never snap it with your fingers, and do not leave the broken segments loose on a bench.

Is it comfortable for long jobs?
The handle is shaped to reduce hand fatigue, which matters if you are trimming a van floor or a roll of matting rather than making two cuts. Keep the blade sharp and you will grip it less hard, which does more for your hands than any handle.
